Geothermal Energy Collaborative Process Spring 2026
To support the state’s transition to clean energy, the 2024 Washington Legislature passed Senate Bill 6039, directing Ecology to lead a collaborative process on developing geothermal energy resources. Our process is focused on the three areas the state Department of Natural Resources has identified with high potential for geothermal resource: Mount Baker, Mount St. Helens and the Wind River valley south of Mount St. Helens. It will also include statewide considerations.
Public feedback will help us understand:
Local priorities, needs and values
Environmental and cultural considerations
Opportunities and risks related to clean energy development
